The debate over genetic engineering in agriculture continues to chase its tail and that’s unlikely to change until we have general agreement over where we want agriculture to go. We must first state what we want from agricultural systems; then we can decide our desires are being met by genetic engineering or any other agricultural technology.
Here’s my ask of agriculture: Our aquaculture and agriculture systems should produce more and more nutritious food in ways that do not degrade the planet’s ability to continue to provide the food we need in the future. I use this framework to asses how genetic engineering is nor isn’t delivering what we want from agriculture.
